Anyone looking for historical research requires access to the work of archivists past and present.
This website will draw from the preservation of the archive for military events. But this is not to disregard all archives.
An excellent example of a member-led charity is The Hampshire Archives Trust (HAT) which works to support and promote Hampshire’s rich archival heritage.
HAT delivers this work by giving grants, through education and events, and developing local history networks – preserving memories for the future. HAT works closely with and supports the Hampshire Record Office in Winchester, the Southampton Archives and the Portsmouth History Centre which between them hold archive collections dating back over 1000 years from across Hampshire.
Our Cicerone, Andy, is a Trustee of HAT and we ask that you visit the HAT website.
Recently an emergency grant of £199 was agreed for the successful purchase at auction by Hampshire Record Office of an album of photographs relating to the First World War Red Cross Auxiliary Hospital in 4 The Close, Winchester, and Preshaw House.
Hampshire local history societies can help to save important local archives by applying to HAT for a grant to fund a project, by becoming a member of HAT or making a donation.
